Awareness of Humanism

According to the most recent data from Stats Canada, which was completed in 2011, 1 in 4 Canadians identifies as having no religious affiliation. This is up 16% from 10 years previous. Christianity remains the religion of choice with 67% of the Canadian population identifying as Christian.

“No religious affiliation” is a broad term, so it’s difficult to determine how many are Humanist.

With such a large non-religious population, it is surprising that more people don’t identify as Humanist. We at the Humanist Association if London and Area aim to educate the public in what it means to be a Humanist and why we should incorporate Humanist values into our lives. We do this through holding lectures surrounding Humanist issues and creating a Humanist community where people can come together to meet other like-minded individuals.

If you have any ideas on how to overcome the barriers on educating the public about Humanism, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact us.
