The Problem of Free Will

Do we choose our actions freely, or is everything we do determined by the laws of cause and effect? John Thorp is a professor of philosophy at Western University, and has won awards for excellence in university teaching.

We will look at the many different contexts in which the freewill problem has cropped up – from logic to theology to neurology to relativity theory. He will argue that each of these is likely just a symptom of a much deeper underlying problem.

After the talk, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
