Donald Trump and Populism

Why was Donald Trump elected President of the United States? One answer is that he represents a kind of populism that claims to truly represent the people. But what is populism? How does it help explain recent events in the U.S., Britain, France, and elsewhere? And, finally, is populism a coherent or plausible way to understand politics in modern liberal democracies? 

Dr. Jones is an associate professor of Political Science at Western, who specializes in contemporary political theory and the history of political thought, and is a recipient of numerous awards for teaching excellence.

After the talk, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
