Epigenetics: When Genetics Does Not Explain Disease

In the last 20 years it has become clear that an individual's genetic makeup alone can not account for many of the complex diseases that affect humans, including cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. The environment's role is at least equally important as genetics.

This talk will describe the field of epigenetics, the point at which the environment and genetic makeup intersect, and how knowledge in this field is helping to understand, diagnose, and treat disease.
